As president of LA FOURMILIÈRE guild, it give me great pleasure to share with you the impressions of two of our guild members who were winners in the Upper Canada Village competition.

We had just formed our little guild when we received an email from Courtepointe Québec quilts (CQQ) announcing a contest at Upper Canada Village.   Since Micheline and I enjoy a challenge and reproduction prints, we decided to participate.  We had to use patterns from the 1860s and Civil War reproduction prints.

During the following months we were well challenged while being supported and encouraged by members of LA FOURMILIÈRE.  On September 16th, we each received a phone call: Micheline won 2nd prize and I had won 3rd!  First prize went to Debbie, a quilter from Morrisburg, Ontario. Asked to be present on September 24, they welcomed us like princesses!  They took our measurements and outfitted us in period costumes for the weekend. This gives us the privilege of free calèche  rides and allows us to quilt at will on the Village’s 50th anniversary quilt; we also were given passes for this coming winter’s Festival of Lights. In addition, we were guests of honour at meals in two of the village’s homes. Throughout the
day, tourists stopped us and asked to take our photos…too funny!

We were able to attend the talks given by Nicole Ménard, Diane Shink and Théresa Mitchell. What a great weekend we had!
